My parents live in the crawfish capital of the world, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. It is a cute town right outside of Lafayette, LA.
One of the best things about Breaux Bridge is a restaurant called Cafe Des Amis. Today we decided to take the kids and walk the half mile to downtown to shop and see the restaurant.
If you are ever on I-10 going/coming to New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Florida, etc, I highly recommend you exiting Breaux Bridge and driving a couple of miles to this unique restaurant.
The reason we love this place is because the venue is very eclectic and the food is even better. They have a wonderful Zydeco breakfast where you can order Eggs Benedict with a Cajun Bloody Mary and then dance to the Cajun Music.
The restaurant is a unique gem that you will tell all of your friends about. It originated in 1890 as a general store. A fire broke out a few years later and a second story was added. For years caskets were manufactured upstairs while the restaurant operated on the first floor. Another interesting fact is that the restaurant had the first elevator in Breaux Bridge.
On a side note, my mom has the coolest rolling pin collection. I love her unique gadgets! For years she has scoured thrift stores and resell shops in search of unique rolling pins. I admitted a couple of years ago that I didn’t own a rolling pin and she gladly let me pick one out of her collection. I cherish this kitchen utensil because it was a gift from my mom and I always think about her when I am using it (albeit it is not that often I use a rolling pin)!
