Memorial Day honors men and women who have died while serving our country. Veterans Day pays tribute to all US veterans, both alive and deceased.
Memorial Day traditionally kicks off the summer season while Labor Day in September wraps of the summer season.
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and started out to honor the fallen soldiers who died during the Civil War.
Many of you will be gathering with family and friends to celebrate Memorial Day and many bbq’s or parties will take place.

Jake is the husband of Leah, a sweet girl who lives in our neighborhood (and she is from Louisiana so you know they have to be good!).
Jake made the beans for a neighborhood gathering and they were so good that Corrin asked for the recipe and made them for another neighborhood gathering. Everyone raved about how good the beans were!!!
Jake’s Amazing Beans
1 Lb Bacon (Applewood Smoked)
1 Lb ground beef
1 Lb ground pork
2 large onions (chopped)
3 large green bell peppers (chopped)
1 celery bunch (chopped0
1- 55 oz can Bush’s Baked Beans
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup honey
Slice bacon into small pieces. Cook bacon until crispy. Remove bacon and place to the side.
Choose a pot large enough to cook all ingredients. Poor bacon grease into this pot.
Brown onions in bacon grease. When onions are lightly browned, add bell peppers and celery. Cook until vegetables are tender.
Add ground beef and ground pork and cook until brown.
Add baked beans, brown sugar, and honey. Cook for 30 minutes on low to medium heat, stir occasionally.
Add bacon pieces prior to serving.
** You can place them in a crock pot and keep on warm during a party.
