A few nights ago we went to a party and had to figure out what to bring. Because it is Lent and it was a Friday, we decided to make something that did not contain meat. Christa came up with the idea that we were going to make a bunch of fun tea sandwiches.
Step 1: Buy/Round Up A Wide Variety of Ingredients (both sweet and savory)Some of the ingredients we purchased included tomatoes, basil, mozzarella, goat cheese, pesto, Nutella, cucumber, pimento cheese spread, and brie.
Step #2: Make your fun sandwich Don’t be afraid to be creative. Make sure to use salt and pepper for the savory sandwiches. Also, fresh herbs take the tea sandwich to the next level.
Step #3: Cut the crust off of the bread. It is very important to use a very sharp straight knife. They now sell crustless bread, this might be a nice option as well.
Step #4: Cut the sandwich diagonally You can have 2 or 4 triangles per sandwich depending on the size you prefer. For the party we used 4 triangles. Here are some of the savory sandwiches we made:
Traditional English Cucumber Tea Sandwich: butter, cucumber (peeled), salt, pepper, dill
Mozzarella, Tomato, Basil, salt and pepper
Pesto, tomato, goat cheese
Marinara Sauce, goat cheese
Pimento Cheese Spread
Avocado, Mozzerella, Tomato, BasilHere are some of the sweet sandwiches we made:
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Banana and Nutella
Brie and Honey
Overall we were please with how our sandwiches turned out. You don’t want to overfill them because they will be hard to cut. If we were making them again on a day we could eat meat, I think adding bacon to the mix would be fun.
My question for you, what is a delicious tea sandwich we should add to our list?
