Go Cheap Or Splurge? Beauty Items That Are Worth The Extra Money, And Ones That Aren’t!

Which beauty items are worth the money, and which ones can you go less expensive route?

(Men:  Want to really impress your wife?  Buy one of these as a random surprise!  You will get huge bonus points!)

Ever since I started wearing make-up, I have purchased most of my products from the drug store. I have always read that when you buy brands from the department store you pay a premium price for products that are just as good as their cheaper counterparts. It was only in the last couple of years that I have changed my opinion. After being introduced to some higher end products, I have decided that some items are worth the price, and others aren’t. Here are the beauty items I currently use and really like!

***We even wrote a blog with our friend who is a professional make up artist!

Flat Iron: BaByliss PRO Nano Titanium Prima 3000 Ionic Straightener ($179.95)

Y’all, I AM OBSESSED with this flat iron! For the past 10 years I have owned 2 flat irons. They were both Chi because a decade ago they were the best and they were so much better than the $20.00 ones available at the time. When my first Chi finally died, I went and bought my second Chi the same day. Fast forward to recently when I have not been crazy about my Chi. I knew that better flat irons have come out, but had no idea which one to buy. Christa and I went to Ulta and asked a few of the ladies who worked in the salon. They both said that the BaByliss was by far their favorite. We looked at the price tag (ouch), but knew we keep our flat irons forever. We both made the purchased and could not believe how much WE LOVE IT!!!! I love that it has several different heat settings (gets up to 465 degrees!). I also love that the shape allows for it to be used as a curling iron. I now only have to plug in one device rather than 2 when getting ready.

Hair Serum- Paul Mitchell ($20.00)

I have been using this for years and love it.

Foundation: Sephora ($20.00)
I like this foundation because I can have one of the makeup artist at Sephora match my color. I also like that for $20.00 it is a reasonablly priced. For 20 years I used Loreal and recently tried Channel. I feel Sephora offeres the best of both worlds (reasonbally in price, great quality).

Powder, Eyebrow Pencil, Blush: Cover Girl ($6.00, $4.00, $5.00)
Some items it just pays to go with the inexpensive brand.

Lipstick: Rimmel Nude ($5.00)  (my friend Liz who is a make-up artist, swears by wearing nude on your lips).

Mascara- Better Than Sex Mascara ($25.00)
I Love this!!! It has lots of volume, is reasonably priced, and lasts a long time.

Eyeshadow: Naked Pallet ($54.00)
I have had this over a year, and LOVE it!

Eyeliner- Mark Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon black eyeliner ($25.00)

I am obsessed with this eyeliner. I was introduced to this eyeliner when Sephora gave it away as a sample. It lasted me forever and when I finally ran out, I bought the real deal.

Soap/ Moisturizer:  Neutrogena ($3.00, $10.00)

My dermatologist told me this was just as good as the pricer ones out there.  I would have to agree.

Eye Make-up Remover:  Vaseline ($2.50)

This is an inexpensive alternative to pricier make-up wipes.

After years of wearing makeup, I have found that some makeup is worth splurging on, and other makeup is not worth the extra money.

My question for you, what do you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE?
